Marcos Rojo Joins Manchester United

Marcos RojoMarcos Rojo the Argentine international and defender for Sporting Lisbon announced on Tuesday afternoon that he was joining Manchester United.

The 24-year old apologized to the fans and players at Sporting this week after he attempted to push a transfer through when Manchester United’s reported £16 million bid was rejected by the Portuguese club.

However, he told a radio station in Argentina that the move was now in place and he would be joining the Red Devils.

He told the radio station that he was home in Portugal with his family but was preparing to travel to England on Wednesday to for what he called a dream to play for United.

United went after Rojo after two targets on defense Thomas Vermaelen and Mats Hummels eluded them. Louis van Gaal needs to reinforce the back line at United after an opening day loss at home.

The left back said he still had not spoken to van Gaal, but the club wanted him, waited for him and made him feel relaxed. He said now it was up to him to play well enough to be first team.

He also said he was willing to play at whatever position the coaches at United wanted to play him.

Rojo started his career in the top league of Argentina with Estudiantes before leaving for Europe in 2011 with Spartak Moscow.

Rojo said he spoke to Juan Sebastien Veron a great deal about Manchester United. Veron was a midfielder for United and is now the sporting director for Estudiantes.

The deal for Rojo will cost Manchester United £16 million and Nani the winger for Manchester will move to Sporting Lisbon, with Manchester covering his entire salary.

The transfer fee by United will be paid to Sporting in three payments with half paid now and two smaller amounts paid on December 1 and July 1 of next year.
