Arsenal Need Players, Three Top the List

Lassana DiarraWith no transfer window open until January of 2015, English Premier League club Arsenal is scrambling to find new players.

Reports are that the Gunners have their eye on a number of free agents and three names in particular have been mentioned.

Former Real Madrid, Chelsea and Arsenal player Lassana Diarra is No. 1 on the shortlist as he currently is free to leave Lokomotiv Moscow in the Premier League in Russia after a dispute with his contract.

The Gunners are also looking at both Diego Lugano and Joseph Yobo to give them cover on defense, as both of these veterans played last season in the Premier League for West Bromwich Albion and Norwich respectively.

Over the summer transfer window, Arsene Wenger the Gunners manager brought in Calum Chambers, Mathieu Debuchy, Alexis Sanchez, David Ospina and Danny Welbeck.

However, Debuchy suffered a knee injury in last weekend’s match versus Manchester City. Injuries have also hit Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker early on this season and the Gunners are thin in the back.

They likely can get by having Chambers play right back, Koscielny and Mertesacker in the center and on the left Kieran Gibbs.

However, one area they have struggled at and continue to do so is holding midfield. During their defeat versus Borussia Dortmund during the Champions League, Arsenal was overrun at midfield and Diarra could be just what they need there.

The midfield balance at the moment does not seem right. However, if Diarra is added to the mix it would give players such as Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere a chance to move ahead more at every little opportunity.

Lugano and Yobo have international experience and great knowledge of the sport and have both been skippers for their countries and played in World Cups.

With that kind of knowledge and experience, they could be interesting players to have as a backup and even start when needed.

David makes his home in Guatemala and follows the worlds greatest games from there. David contributes on all leagues across the world and had over 25 years experience. He has covered 10 World Cups and will do so again this year in Brazil
